Overview.
Battery storage projects are often slow to develop and require significant capital, while new grid connections are costly and constrained. At the same time, many industrial sites have unused grid capacity that remains idle. As renewable penetration increases, the energy system requires significantly more flexibility — yet industrial customers still lack fast, capital-efficient solutions for peak shaving and load management.
Scale Energy leverages underused grid capacity to deploy battery storage systems across multiple use cases. In its “grid-scale” approach, it installs front-of-the-meter BESS at industrial sites using existing connections. In addition, it offers behind-the-meter solutions for on-site optimization and co-location with renewable assets. Across these models, Scale installs and operates the systems to reduce peak loads, optimize energy usage, and generate revenue from energy and grid services. Flexible contract structures enable customers to benefit without upfront capex.
Why we invested.
As energy systems become more volatile and renewables-driven, storage is a key enabler of flexibility and increasingly attractive as an asset class. Scale Energy addresses this opportunity with a capital-efficient model that unlocks existing grid capacity and accelerates deployment. By combining front-of-the-meter, behind-the-meter, and co-location approaches, the company can serve multiple customer segments and scale across industrial portfolios. With projects structured via SPVs and backed by asset investors, customers avoid upfront investment while benefiting from immediate value.
